The Past

Something from Nothing has been stewing for several years in the minds of Ed Crouse and Jo Braithwaite. In 1999, these two talented individuals decided to expand their acoustic duo sound and create an acoustic blend of Folk, Soul, Rock, and Blues. Ed and Jo fulfilled the acoustic line up of the band with the additon of Jodi Hillman-Taylor and Christopher Hann toward the end of 1999 and beginning of the year 2000. We had a great time sharing in each others musical endeavors, but the project on the verge of playing in the area had a member change.

In June of 2000, Ed parted with the band to accomplish his own endeavors with an acoustic band called Avogadro's Number and has since been playing local venues in the area. If you would like to check out Avogadro's Number there is a link in the Bands and Venues section for their website. Jodi took time to concentrate on personal and musical endeavors of her own, while Jo & Chris decided to carry on the SFN Project with recruiting new members and refocusing the SFN Goals.

The Present

In 2001, Something From Nothing reorganized with the addition of two members. First we would like to welcome back Jodi Hillman-Taylor!!!! Jodi has decided to rejoin SFN and we're glad she's back on vocals and shaking her thing! Also, we would like to extend a big welcome to our newest member Ron Cederlund!! Ron will also be on vocals, and the keyboards! We're going to be working on new material, as all members of SFN can really write some great tunes!! We are currently looking for a drummer and bassist, if you may be interested please email us. Meanwhile, we will keep you notified of current changes and future gigs in the SFN Newsletter.

The Band Members

Jo Braithwaite – Vocals, Rhythm / Lead Guitar

Jo has always had an appreciation for music. Even though she was a member of her high school’s choir, she didn’t find her singing voice until after she graduated. It was about this time she picked up the guitar and taught herself how to play. She has had no official training with her voice or the guitar, but you would not be able to notice this. With a very diverse taste in music, Jo has had many influences Some of these include The Indigo Girls, Jewel, Sarah McLachlan, The Grateful Dead, James Taylor, Beth Hart, Garth Brookes, Tricia Yearwood and the list goes on! She has a natural talent for writing songs that touch the heart and mind. It has even been said that she has music in her soul! Jo has been performing with Ed Crouse under various band names for the past 5+ years. Some of Jo’s musical goals are to create music that leaves an impression, to play beside her musical influences, and to be the best musician and person she can be.

“I expect to pass through this world but once. Any good therefore that I can do, or any kindness or abilities that I can show to any fellow creature, let me do it now. Let me not defer it or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again.”- William Penn 1644-1718

Chris Hann – Rhythm / Lead Guitar

Chris Hann picked up the guitar in 1991 and hasn’t laid it down since. Chris is, for the most part, self taught on this instrument. However, he has had some training on the guitar by way of the Cumberland Valley School of Music. Some of Chris’s musical influences are Willie Nelson, The Beatles, Fleetwood Mac, Eric Clapton, Jim Croce, Bread, James Taylor, Harry Chapin, Neil Young, Dave Matthews, and many, many more! Chris’s eclectic taste in music has allowed him to write beautiful music with heart warming lyrics. He has performed with several other bands in the past including such projects as Kindred Spirit, Cold November, and Simplicity. Chris would like to create honest music that can touch one's soul, after all life is short, enjoy each breath and cherish every memory. If he would pick one goal, it would be to take that philosophy, constantly learn and experience life, that way he can share it through his music and lyrics.
