SFN Past & Present

Something from Nothing was stewing for several years in the minds of Ed Crouse and Jo Braithwaite. In 1999, these two talented individuals decided to expand their acoustic duo sound and create an acoustic blend of Folk, Soul, Rock, and Blues. Ed and Jo fulfilled the acoustic line up of the band with the additon of Jodi Hillman-Taylor and Christopher Hann toward the end of 1999. In June of 2000, SFN made their debut at the the Cornerstone Coffee House in Mechanicsburg with Special Guest Musician, Tom Benkovich. However shortly thereafter, Ed and Jodi decided to go there seperate ways.

2001 is a milestone year for the SFN Project with the addition of 3 new members and the return of Jodi Hillman-Taylor. First we would like to welcome back Jodi and we're glad she's back on vocals shaking her thing! Also, we would like to extend a big welcome to our newest members Ronald Cederlund and Chuck O!! Meet the members of SFN!

Jo's musical career started in her high school’s choir, although she didn’t find her singing voice until after she graduated. It was about this time she picked up the guitar and taught herself how to play. She has had no official training with her voice or the guitar, but you would not be able to notice this.

With a very diverse taste in music, Jo has had many influences which include The Indigo Girls, Jewel, Sarah McLachlan, The Grateful Dead, James Taylor, Beth Hart, Garth Brookes, Tricia Yearwood and the list goes on! She has a natural talent for writing songs that touch the heart and mind. It has even been said that she has music in her soul! Jo has been performing with Ed Crouse and others under various band names for the past 6+ years. Some of Jo’s musical goals are to create music that leaves an impression, to play beside her musical influences, and to be the best musician and person she can be.

Jodi has always had an appreciation for music. When she was younger, she had some training on the piano. She found her singing voice while performing in school musical’s, and while being a member of her school’s choir. Jodi is self taught in her vocal career and she is an active member in her church’s music program. With influences such as Madonna, Jewel, Sarah McLachlan, Beth Hart and Alanis Morrisette, she has trained her voice to sound much like these well established performers.

Jodi has been writing her own material in the past few years and we look forward to both encouraging her as a songwriter as well as being involved with such a monumental talent. Her voice is both beautiful and angelic as she warms your heart and soothes your soul. Jodi’s musical goals include singing the national anthem at the Superbowl, being known as a well established singer across the country, and recording at least one CD to be sold world wide.

Chris picked up the guitar in 1991 and hasn’t laid it down since. Chris is, for the most part, self taught on this instrument. However, he has had some training on the guitar by way of the Cumberland Valley School of Music. Some of Chris’s musical influences are Steve Winwood, The Beatles, Eric Clapton, Jim Croce, Bread, James Taylor, Harry Chapin, Neil Young, Dave Matthews, The Screamin Cheetah Wheelies and many, many more!

Chris’s eclectic taste in music has allowed him to write beautiful music with heart warming lyrics. He has performed with several other bands in the past including such projects as Kindred Spirit, Cold November, and Simplicity. Chris would like to create honest music that can touch one's soul, after all life is short, enjoy each breath and cherish every memory. If he would pick one goal, it would be to take that philosophy, constantly learn and experience life, that way he can share it through his music and lyrics.

Ron started playing the keyboard at the age of 8 with his grandfather's table top organ. He gained an appreciation for many types of music including rock, metal, show music, new age jazz, new wave and so on. Ron entered the music scene at 18 with a band called Destiny and continued on through the nineties with cover bands such as Bittercreek, David King and the K.C. Band, Mesh, and Kindred Spirit, London Calling, and Black, White, and Blues Band which had a moderate success.

In 2001, Ron is involved in several projects such as Something From Nothing, collaborations with Jeremy DePrisco, a talented singer/songwriter out of Harrisburg, A producing project, Ronster Monster Records and the release of a new album entitled, Beyond The Dream. Ron lives in Shippensburg with his wife of nearly ten years, Laura and his two beautiful girls, Sarah and Heather. His goal is to break out of the local scene and record an album which will make it into mainstream audiences.

Chuck O has been playing music for many years, in the early 70’s he performed with the band "SKYN". He is native to the Harrisburg Area and plays Bass as well as Guitar.

With influences such as Beatles, Moody Blues, Grand Funk Railroad, and Fleetwood Mac, Chuck has style of his own with the feel and sound of the classic rock era giants. Listening to Rock, New Age, Light Rock and Oldies, he adds the distinct sound we need in our music.

Chuck’s goals are simple, to write and record original music. We feel fortunate to have such a seasoned player in the SFN Project.
